Starting out with makeup? - Guide to selecting makeup for beginners + latest trends and tips!
It's the last quarter of the year when your social calendar is dotted with festivals, home parties, and meetups with friends. you've chosen your outfits, but is your makeup game on point? what cues should you take from the season's latest trends to make sure that every time you step out heads turn towards you?
(latest trend alert: cream products, glowing looks, and natural/soft glam is more in trend right now)
must-have essentials for your vanity case:
- primer- (choose a pore blurring, radiating, and glowing primer for your base instead of a matte one and prevent your skin from breaking out)
- liquid foundation - choose a lightweight, light to medium coverage foundation so the skin looks fresh and luminous. ( If you have a matte/medium to full coverage foundation like I do you can mix 1-2 pumps of your product with an illuminating moisturizer or cream to get that perfect tinted and glowing base)
- concealer- even if you opt for a rain check on the foundation, concealer is a must-have if you want that minimalistic natural coverage or just blemish-free looking skin.
- cream/powder blush- using blush you can give your face a natural lift with a pop color (tip- apply your blush how you would contour your cheekbones but higher. find your cheekbone line and apply your blush in a slanting motion above it. this gives your face a natural lift)
- highlighter- liquid highlighters are a must for that radiating glowing goddess shine (tip- if you have a powder highlighter, apply a little moisturizer on the points you want to apply your highlighter to and then apply the powder over that for better shine and a blended in look)
- mascara- mascara is the go-to product for natural everyday makeup or even soft glam and when paired with false lashes gives you the effortless glam look, making you look simply gorgeous. (tip - for that false-lash- fox-eye lift apply your mascara only on the outward corners of your eye)
- Setting powder- If you don't have one, as an alternative you can use a compact or any normal powder really (make sure it's not very tinted tho). This is used to set your face so you can glow without looking oily. (tip- take a little product on a brush or a beauty blender and tap off the excess, then apply it on your t-zone and around the nose to prevent looking oily, then brush off the excess)
- liner and eyeshadow - for liner if you aren't a pro, (which don't worry keep practicing you will get it :) just apply a little extension on the outer lash line of your eyelid. For eyeshadow take a warm tone and apply on the crease of your lids for a little pop of color. when you feel more comfortable later on using different colors and brighter shades you can apply concealer on your lids before you start to really accentuate the colors.
- lipstick- having a lip liner and lipstick is a must, even you don't wear makeup, lipstick will get you by perfectly. (tip- line your lips with a dark brown/darker color of a liner than your lipstick and don't worry if you have big lips already just trust the process and line on your lip line. then take a nude lipstick or a slightly lighter shade of lipstick than the liner and fill inside for a perfect light ombre look)
- Setting spray - If you want your makeup to be locked in place and not fade out during the day you should have a setting spray to lock all of it in place and save the hassle of reapplying everything. (this is not a very important step but definitely recommended if you want your makeup to last for a while without budging or fading.)
- makeup remover- we need a remover at the end of the day and no, normal face washes do not remove your makeup as efficiently and can cause skin problems if you sleep with a dirty face. (note- cleansing balms are in serious trend now and I bought one for myself and let me tell you it works like a charm! you can use normal micellar water or any makeup remover too. ill attach a link of my fav down below just in case) click here
- tools - now last but not least you need tools to apply your makeup and a beauty blender is a must for that. you can also take a pack of brushes to help you do your makeup properly but for a beginner, a beauty blender will do. (tip- never blend with your beauty blender without wetting it first and always give it a good soak and squeeze before blending)
